TOMATILLO

The Green tomato (Physalis ixocarpa) is a species native to Mexico, belonging to the “Solanaceae” family. It is known as green tomato, tomatillo, husk tomato, or miltomatl, the latter of Nahuatl origin. This round-shaped fruit, similar in size to a plum, has become an extremely popular ingredient in international gastronomy due to its unique flavor and culinary versatility.

Properties

It is mostly composed of water (93.3%), and it also contains ash, proteins, fats, crude fiber, and digestible carbohydrates. It provides vitamins such as niacin and ascorbic acid, as well as minerals like calcium, iron, and phosphorus.

Use

Condiments, protagonist of the Mexican sauce.

Our product is packaged in plastic boxes and burlap sacks.

SHELF LIFE

Fresh tomatillos, when still in their husks, can be refrigerated in a paper bag for approximately 2 weeks. Once the husks are removed, they can be refrigerated for up to 3 months.

storage

Ripe green tomatoes can be stored at 12.5º C for 17 days without a significant reduction in their sensory quality.
